2027 Volkswagen Atlas Reimagined: New Design, Same Family Focus

The all-new 2027 Volkswagen Atlas promises an upgraded driving experience for the whole family, and we can’t wait to welcome it to our dealership later this year. Recently introduced to the world at the New York International Auto Show, the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas features noteworthy updates, both inside and out.

From its striking exterior design to its abundance of thoughtful standard features, the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas is set to deliver a comfortable, convenient, and engaging driving experience for you and your crew. The upcoming Atlas will bring a new look, a luxurious cabin, and a boost in horsepower to every adventure. Ready to learn more about the all-new 2027 Volkswagen Atlas? Let’s take a look at its top highlights below.

An Updated Exterior

Designed to make a bold statement, the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas features all-new sheet metal and sharp details like double stacked LED headlights and a masked upper grille. You’ll stand out even more on the road with available double lightlines and an illuminated VW badge. Other eye-catching exterior design details include:

  • Strong fenders
  • Sculpted side sills
  • Available illuminated door handles
  • Available puddle lamps
  • Spoiler
  • Turn signals with three animations

Built on the upgraded MQB Evo architecture, the all-new Atlas is now slightly longer, and its new look is complemented by 18-inch, 20-inch, or 21-inch wheels, depending on the trim level. New aluminum-alloy wheel designs are standard on all trim levels except the base, but you can opt for available machined alloy or black finishes instead.

The sleek design of the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas is finished off by tasteful paint color options, including three new shades: Blackberry, Sacramento Green, and Sandstone.

A Revamped Cabin

Buckle up for a luxurious driving experience because the all-new 2027 Volkswagen Atlas SUV’s cabin was thoughtfully redesigned for practicality and for you and your family’s comfort.

The shift lever has been relocated to the steering column, giving you more center console space — and speaking of the console, it now features a new Driver Experience Dial that lets you control features like audio volume and drive modes. Plus, the console lets you charge two phones at once with updated Qi2 wireless charging.

The base trim level features a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, but higher trim levels boast an even larger screen — 15 inches.

Every trim level is designed with real wood décor, and even the door handles have been redesigned. You can choose from three interior color options: pebble grey, black and dark grey, or an all-new deep wine. Base trim levels come with leatherette, but you can opt for Varenna leather or Nappa leather in the top two trim levels for an even more elevated experience. Not only that, ambient lighting adds an extra-special touch.

You’ll find new standard features in the upcoming Atlas, such as a power liftgate, rear sunshades, front and rear park distance control, and more that add convenience to everyday life.

Comfort features include new air vents in the B pillars, available second-row seat ventilation, and a 12-way ergonomic driver seat with enhanced four-way lumbar support. Higher trim levels step up comfort with driver thigh support and an available four-way massage function for the front seats.

A Power Boost

When it comes to performance, you can look forward to more horsepower this time around, thanks to the new EA888 evo5 turbocharged and direct-injection 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI® engine. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, this robust engine boasts 282 horsepower, which is an increase of 13 horsepower compared to the 2026 Atlas, and produces 258 pound-feet of torque. Even with the power boost, you can expect improved fuel economy.

Like the 2026 model, the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. Front-wheel drive is also standard, but you’ll have the option of upgrading to available 4Motion® all-wheel-drive for enhanced performance.

How South Carolina's Summer Heat Affects Your Volkswagen

If you've ever climbed into a car that's been sitting in a South Carolina parking lot in July, you already know: our summers don't just test your patience; they test your Volkswagen. Triple-digit heat indexes and thick humidity don't just make you miserable on the drive home. They quietly stress your battery, strain your air conditioning, push your tires past their limits, and force your engine's cooling system to work overtime. When left unchecked, that stress may show up as a dead battery in a parking lot, a blown tire on the interstate, or an AC system that just can't keep up when you need it most. The good news is that a little maintenance goes a long way. Here, we'll break down exactly how South Carolina's summer heat affects your Volkswagen, from the battery and AC to your tires and engine cooling. We’ll also tell you what you can do to stay ahead of it, so your ride stays reliable no matter how high the temperatures climb. more Test Your Battery Health In South Carolina, it's summer heat, not winter cold, that does the real damage to your car battery. Our high temperatures for months on end wreak more havoc on the chemistry that powers your battery than a hard freeze ever could. When the heat climbs, here's what's happening: Chemical reactions inside the battery speed up, wearing down components faster than they're built to handle. Fluid inside the battery evaporates, slowly draining its ability to hold a charge. Corrosion builds up internally, chipping away at performance you won't notice until it's gone. Overall battery lifespan shrinks, often by years, cutting your battery's life short well before you expect it. If your battery's already a few years old, one more Florence heat wave could be all it takes to push it past the point of no return, and that often happens without warning. The easiest way to avoid getting stranded on the hottest day of the year? Get it tested before the heat does the deciding for you. At Mike Reichenbach Volkswagen of Florence, ask our team about our complimentary battery test, or check out our battery service coupons online. Cabin Comfort: How's Your AC Working? Nothing works harder each summer than your car’s air conditioner. Between the intense heat that builds up inside a parked car and the scorching pavement radiating heat up from below while you drive, your AC is fighting hard to keep your cabin comfortable every single time you get in. If it's taking longer to cool down than it used to, or the air coming through the vents just isn't as cold as it should be, that's a sign your AC system may need professional attention. It could need something as simple as a recharge, or your compressor may need to be replaced. Check Your Tire Pressure Your tires spend every mile in direct contact with pavement that can hit well over 140°F in a South Carolina summer, and that heat changes how they perform in ways you might not expect: Tire pressure rises on its own as the air inside heats up and expands. Underinflated tires flex more than they should, wearing down tread faster than normal. Overinflated tires have a smaller contact patch, reducing the traction you rely on. Incorrect pressure in either direction reduces your fuel economy. Extreme heat raises the risk of blowouts and other tire damage, especially on long stretches of highway driving. That's why checking your tire pressure regularly matters even more in summer, especially before a road trip, when your tires are working their hardest. A routine service visit covers it all: technicians can check your tread wear, rotate your tires if needed, and make sure every tire is inflated to Volkswagen's exact specifications so you're not left guessing whether your tires are ready for the heat. Cooling System Evaluation It's easy to assume coolant, AKA antifreeze, is a winter thing, but its real job happens in the heat of summer: absorbing the intense heat your engine generates and carrying it through the radiator, keeping temperatures from climbing into dangerous territory. The problem is, coolant doesn't stay effective forever. Over time, it breaks down chemically and loses its ability to regulate heat properly. Old coolant means less protection, and that means a much higher risk of overheating right when South Carolina's summer temperatures are pushing your engine hardest. We recommend having a certified technician check your coolant's level, age, and chemical concentration, and inspect hoses for soft spots or cracks. These are all small warning signs that, if left unaddressed, can lead to a much bigger problem on the road.
