This subcompact SUV pumps out 174 horses, up from 158 horsepower in the 2024 VW Taos. Torque remains the same at 184 lb.-ft. Hardware improvements include revised piston rings and fuel injectors, a modified turbo housing, a larger intercooler, and a new gasoline particulate filter. These upgrades provide better fuel efficiency and a more refined driving experience. Speaking of fuel economy, the front-wheel-drive (FWD) Taos gets an impressive 28 MPG city and 36 MPG highway. All-wheel-drive (AWD) models are rated at 25 MPG city and 32 MPG highway. The other powertrain update is on 4Motion® all-wheel-drive models, which are now equipped with a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission instead of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The result is improved traction and stability. Enhanced Cabin Experience The cabin received some styling tweaks to make it more modern, and there are some material updates to make the Taos feel more upscale.
