About the APEAL Study

Wondering what the J.D. Power U.S. APEAL Study is? APEAL stands for Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout. The study has been around for 30 years and seeks to gauge drivers’ experiences after 90 days with their new vehicles in areas such as design, performance, safety, usability, comfort, perceived quality, and more. This year’s study was based on the feedback of 92,964 owners.

The J.D. Power APEAL Study draws from 10 experience groups:

1. Walking up to your vehicle 
2. Setting up and starting your vehicle 
3. Getting in and out of the vehicle 
4. Your vehicle’s interior 
5. Your vehicle’s powertrain 
6. Your vehicle’s driving feel

The Volkswagen brand itself received an above-average score of 845 (out of 1,000) in the Mass Market brands category. The ID. Buzz stood out with an APEAL Index score of 882, according to the Volkswagen press release, and was honored with the highest Powertrain Index score in the Mass Market category.
