The VW Taos is fun to drive, affordable, efficient, and compact yet comfortable. What more could you want from an SUV?

How about a refreshed Taos for 2025? Volkswagen decided to elevate the value of this already popular subcompact SUV with a host of upgrades.

It boasts revised exterior styling, including a new lower expressive fascia design and a new grille. The light bar and headlights are their own separate feature just below the hood and the S model now comes with LED projector headlights. SE models also get adaptive headlights and front and rear parking sensors.

The new wheel designs are yet another exterior design enhancement and range in size from 17 to 19 inches, allowing for more customization. There will also be three new colors available: Bright Moss Green, Monterey Blue Pearl, and Monument Gray.

Read on to discover what else is new for the 2025 Volkswagen Taos lineup!

Refined Powertrain and Performance

The 2025 VW Taos has the same engine as the previous model–a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder–it’s equipped with more power. This subcompact SUV pumps out 174 horses, up from 158 horsepower in the 2024 VW Taos. Torque remains the same at 184 lb.-ft.

Hardware improvements include revised piston rings and fuel injectors, a modified turbo housing, a larger intercooler, and a new gasoline particulate filter. These upgrades provide better fuel efficiency and a more refined driving experience.

Speaking of fuel economy, the front-wheel-drive (FWD) Taos gets an impressive 28 MPG city and 36 MPG highway. All-wheel-drive (AWD) models are rated at 25 MPG city and 32 MPG highway.

The other powertrain update is on 4Motion® all-wheel-drive models, which are now equipped with a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission instead of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The result is improved traction and stability.

Enhanced Cabin Experience

The cabin received some styling tweaks to make it more modern, and there are some material updates to make the Taos feel more upscale. The Taos S features two-tone black and grey cloth upholstery, while SE and SE Black models are outfitted with CloudTex and cloth materials. SEL models have leather seats, available in a two-tone black and grey combo or striking dark blue. You’ll enjoy a quieter ride thanks to new acoustic dampening treatments.

The infotainment system also received some upgrades, like the newly-standard floating 8-inch screen. The previous model sported a 6.5-inch touchscreen. Seamless smartphone integration with wireless connectivity is now standard across all trims and includes features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Standard Driver Assistance Technologies

Volkswagen understands safety, so VW IQ. Drive, a suite of driver assistance and safety features, comes standard across all 2025 Volkswagen Taos trims. Driver assist technologies include:

  • Front Assist with automatic emergency braking
  • Active Blind Spot Monitor
  • Rear Traffic Alert
  • Lane Assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
