If you’re driving a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta or Taos, this is one alert you don’t want to scroll past.
Volkswagen has issued a safety recall affecting more than 75,000 vehicles after identifying a software glitch that can cause the digital instrument cluster to go dark and stop displaying critical driving data, including speed, fuel level, and warning indicators.
At Mike Reichenbach Volkswagen of Florence, it’s our responsibility to keep our local VW owners informed. Whether you’re commuting through Florence or heading out toward Sumter, you deserve to know if your vehicle is affected and exactly what to do next.
Here’s everything Florence and Sumter-area drivers need to know about this recall, including which 2025 models are affected and how to address the issue.

What: This recall, assigned Volkswagen recall number 90Z5, affects 36,242 2025 Volkswagen Taos models, produced between November 6, 2024, and June 20, 2025. And the 2025 Volkswagen Jetta, which accounts for 39,081 units, was produced between September 23, 2024, and July 1, 2025. Affected VINs are expected to become searchable through the Volkswagen Recall Database.
Why: This issue causes the instrument cluster to go dark, which means it will no longer display key information like your speed, warning lights, and other critical controls. This violates federal vehicle safety standards and puts you and others on the road at greater risk of an accident.
Where: The recall is effective in the United States.
What should VW owners do: If you drive a 2025 VW Jetta or Taos and have noticed that your infotainment system screen freezes or goes blank while driving, causing you to temporarily lose visibility of important information, such as:
- Speedometer readings
- Warning lights
- Gear selection indicators
- Other essential dashboard displays
