The compact and sporty Golf GTI made a big impression on the automotive world when it was introduced in 1975. From that point, it sparked the “hot hatch” trend of the 1980s and today, it remains one of the most popular hatchbacks on the market.

With comfortable seating for five and sporty cloth seats, the cabin is spacious and comfortable. The plaid-patterned cloth upholstery in the lower trims is a nod to the Golf’s predecessors.

For model year 2025, the Golf GTI is available in three trim levels:

  • 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI S
  • 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI SE
  • 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI Autobahn

While a starting price hasn’t been announced yet, we expect the GTI S to start around $33,000.

Ready to explore the new Golf GTI? The team at Mike Reichenbach Volkswagen is here to fill you in on the exciting new features, improved tech, and exhilarating driving dynamics that have made the Golf GTI a favorite for decades.

Revised Exterior with New Lights

For 2025, the Golf GTI received some exterior updates like new headlights, taillights, and wheel designs. There’s also a light-up VW badge that makes the Golf GTI even more head-turning on the road. The 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels have a unique design that looks like nothing else.

You’ll have four new exterior paint choices: Oyster Silver Metallic, Anemone Blue Metallic, Crystal Ice Blue Metallic, and Grenadilla Black Metallic.

Improved Infotainment System

For 2025, the Golf GTI is getting a host of technology updates like a ChatGPT AI assistant, an upgraded infotainment system with a larger touchscreen, and an improved voice assistant. The 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI will come with Volkswagen’s upgraded MIB4 software system which promises improved functionality.

This system is now more intuitive, with enhanced software that makes accessing features like navigation, media, and climate control a breeze. Connectivity options like Apple  CarPlay® and Android Auto™ come standard, ensuring that you can seamlessly pair your smartphone and keep your apps, playlists, and more within reach. The updated GTI will offer a 12.9-inch infotainment screen. In addition, the steering wheel comes with physical buttons instead of touch-sensitive sliders.

Sporty Handling and Spirited Performance

The VW Golf is known for being fun to drive, and the 2025 model continues that tradition. With the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the previous model, it produces 241 horsepower with 273 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that delivers quick and responsive shifts to enhance your driving experience.

Unlike previous model years, the 2025 GTI lineup won’t offer a stick shift option. The 2024 GTI 380 edition is your last chance to own a manual transmission GTI.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI strikes an excellent balance between performance and practicality, making it a fantastic choice for those who want a fun-to-drive vehicle with everyday usability.

If you’re seeking more power, the 2025 VW Golf R produces 328 horsepower, a 13-hp increase over the 2024 model.
